Illinois Legislature Honors SURS on 75th Anniversary

On May 3, SURS was presented with a legislative resolution and certificates of recognition from the Illinois House and Senate commemorating the System's 75th anniversary.

During the 10th annual legislative reception co-sponsored by the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) and the State Universities Annuitants Association (SUAA), SURS Board of Trustees Chairman Tom Cross and Executive Director Bryan Lewis accepted accolades from Rep. Carol Ammons (D - 103rd District), Sen. Scott Bennett (D - 52nd District) and Sen. Chapin Rose (R- 51st District) on the System's 75 years of service to members.

Rep. Ammons presented SURS with House Resolution 1100 (HR 1100) congratulating SURS on its anniversary and thanking the System "for their professionalism and dedication to public service." Reps. Ammons and Chad Hays (R - 104th District) were co-sponsors of HR 1100.

Sens. Rose and Bennett each presented Senate Recognition awards to SURS "in recognition of its 75th anniversary, celebrating three-quarters of a century of service, 1941-2016."

Over 30 state legislators stopped by the event, held at the SUAA office in downtown Springfield, to offer congratulations to SURS.

SURS would like to thank SUAA Executive Director Linda Brookhart and the SUAA staff and executive committee for hosting the reception.

Chad Hays (R-104th District) were the chief co- sponsors of HR 1100. Rep. Ammons' district includes Champaign where SURS is headquartered. More than 9,400 SURS members live in the district. Rep. Hays' district includes areas in Champaign and Vermillion Counties. More than 6,200 SURS members live in the 104th House District.

His district includes the state's southern-most counties where Southern Illinois University - Carbondale, Rend Lake College, John A Logan College and Shawnee College are located.
